WOMEX 2007 Announces First Conference Sessions

Conferences

Berlin, Germany - The first conference sessions for WOMEX 2007 have now been confirmed. As always, the WOMEX Jury tried to provide a balance of themes, concerns and regions. Their task was made easy by the sheer quality of the proposals and the expertise of those offering them. This year, WOMEX will present Bollywood star composer A. R. Rahman as WOMEX 07 conference speaker.

Conferences:

Hermes, Will (USA): Covering the World - World music and mainstream media attention.

Nedland, Lars Are (Norway): Metal Folk, or How to Make a Leather Clad Metal Freak Play the Fiddle - Folk music in the heavy metal scene.

Norman, Claudia (USA): Transnational Communities in the US - The world music from Latin America: Latino Experience.

Rahman, A.R. (India): Case "Lord of the Rings" - Finnish world music meets Bollywood. (with guests from Värttinä)

Sadighi, Ramin (Iran): Iran: Axis of Opportunity - The music in Iran.

More conference sessions will be announced in the next weeks. All are subject to change.
