  San Francisco (California), USA - This year, Kenyan funk master Sila and Maisha Productions have teamed to bring New Year's Eve revelers in the San Francisco Bay Area an event they not only won't soon forget, but one which makes a positive impact on future generations, even beyond 2008. Eclectic Fever is a dance party with a difference: in addition to a spectacular, jam-packed lineup of some of the Bay's best world music and dance acts, the event is a benefit for orphaned children in East Africa.
Held at San Francisco's Gift Center Pavilion on December 31, Eclectic Fever's multicultural lineup offers a wealth of global sounds for just one reasonably-priced cover charge: Global Electronica with Cheb i Sabbah; Afrobeat, Afropop, and Nu-Afrikan grooves (Sila and the AfroFunk Experience); Afro-Latin funk (B-Side Players ); roots reggae and ska (all-Filipino ensemble Native Elements); contemporary Indian music and dance (Non-Stop Bhangra); wildly energetic Brazilian dance (Sambamora Dance Company); seductive belly dance (Roz Wood); and the latest in international electronic sounds and world music classics (DJ Jeremiah and Afrobeat Nation, DJ Dragonfly and DJ Felina).
"My goal with this event is to celebrate the Bay Area's diversity through music," Sila explains. "We want to make it feel like a carnival. Every single band is going to bring the funk!!!," he promises.
Eclectic Fever will also bring much-needed humanitarian relief to victims of war, genocide, and AIDS in Africa; Proceeds from the event will benefit World Action for Humanity in their fund-raising efforts for House of Hope School, an orphanage in Uganda which serves extremely underprivileged children who have lost their parents.
"New Year's Eve is a time to party, dance, be merry, and reflect on everything that's happened in the past 12 months. But it's also a time to look ahead to the future, and what it holds," remarks Sila. "Helping those who are less fortunate represents "the most positive way to bring in the New Year," he adds.
As Sila says, "Anyone can wake up January 1st with a hangover. Eclectic Fever offers a chance to wake up with a clear conscience, knowing that you've helped to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. We encourage everyone to bring both their dancing shoes and open hearts."
