Cuban Timba Star Issac Delgado in New York

EventsOn July 6th, S.O.B.’s presents a true icon of the timba genre, Issac Delgado. Every Friday, S.O.B.’s Salsa Groove Afterwork party hosts the hottest local and international Latin bands that New York has to offer, but July 6th will be a special night with Issac Delgado performing in support of his recent album En Primera Plana (La Calle).

Issac Delgado, who left Cuba a little over 6 months ago, has been called “the most significant Cuban singer of his generation”. Already a star in Cuba, Delgado is making a run at becoming the latest musician from the island to find commercial success stateside in recent times, following the path created by Celia Cruz, Gloria Estefan, Arturo Sandoval, Orishas, Paquito D'Rivera, and many others.  However, while Delgado adapted his style to U.S.’s more radio-based, commercial market, he has tried to stay true to his craft. Rather than pandering to the American pop or Reggaetón market, he recorded En Primera Plana, a dynamic salsa album aimed at Latin audiences. "I didn't come here to change my music,” he says, “but at the same time I wanted to do something new."

En Primera Plana, produced by Sergio George, was recorded in Miami and features collaborations with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Alain Perez, Cuban bassist Cachao, virtuoso conga player Giovanni Hidalgo. The album’s first single, “La Mujer Que Mas Me Duele”, currently in heavy rotation on La Mega, is a duet with Victor Manuelle.

This will be Issac’s first performance on the island of Manhattan since arriving from his native island of Cuba.
