The United State's Polka King Jimmy Sturr Shares the Wine

New ReleasesBurlington (Massachusetts), USA - Polka bandleader and entertainer Jimmy Sturr and His Orchestra, winner of 16 Grammy awards, returns with a new album on Rounder, titled Come Share the Wine. Known for his warm personality, stellar musicianship and ever-expanding repertoire, Sturr is the master of re-invention; keeping one foot firmly planted in the traditional polka world while allowing the other to venture into new musical territory.

While Sturr’s previous album, Polka in Paradise (2006), found the multi-instrumentalist and bandleader returning to his roots with a more straight-ahead polka sound, Come Share the Wine, Sturr’s 40th studio recording, is a sharp collection that covers a range of source material – from classic polka standards like “Red Wing” and “Snappy Time” to an ingenious reinvention of the Singing Nun’s infectious “Dominique” and two versions (both as a ballad and as a polka) of the sterling title track.

The band’s in-house vocalists Johnny Karas (who doubles on saxophones), Frankie Urbanovitch (who also contributes fiddle), and Gennarose are all featured extensively, along with twin brothers Jerry and Jack Calhoun, who contribute guest vocals on the rousing “I’m Gonna Steal Your Shoes.”

In addition to dates this summer and fall, Sturr has also announced a string of tour dates for his all new Jimmy Sturr Holiday Spectacular this December. The tour will feature Jimmy and His Orchestra, The Fabulous Mills Brothers, Matt and Elaine Bonowitz and The Polka Today Dancers, Gennarose, the Jimmy Sturr Singers, and the Irish Step Dancers.
