AwardsTotemic Flute Chants by Johnny Whitehorse (aka Robert Mirabal) is the winner of the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album. Mirabal and co-producer Larry Mitchell were honored with the prestigious award on Sunday, February 10 in Los Angeles.

Johnny Whitehorse is the mystical character created by Robert Mirabal to showcase his ethereal conceptual Native flute music which appeals to the new age music fans. Totemic Flute Chants features Native American flute, keyboards, tribal drums and an array of world music instruments. This music interprets the spirit of animals that have the power to guide us in our daily lives. Twelve songs are in honor of Cougar, Coyote, Thunderbird, Emergence, Earth Mother, Serpent, Buffalo, Whale, Elk, Eagle, Bear, and Wolf.

This first recording by the alter ego of Robert Mirabal received much critical acclaim. It was a finalist in the Indie Acoustic Project's Best CDs of 2006 and for New Age Reporter's Best Native American Album. Johnny Whitehorse conjures images of great horsemen, warriors, and dancers, weaving tribal drums and native flutes into a mystical musical tapestry of a time gone by.
