Renowned Cape Verdean Multi-instrumentalist Will Perform in New York
06/04/2007 06:25AM
Contributed by: WMC_News_Dept.

EventsNew York city (NY), USA - Kim Alves, renown multi-instrumentalist/producer from the Cape Verde islands, will perform live at the legendary Sob's on Sunday, June 10th at 8pm. With a career that spans over three decades, Kim has finally released his own album, A Dança das Ilhas (Dance of the islands) presenting it for the first time in New York.

Kim plans to take you along an unforgettable dance throughout the Cape Verde islands via a cultural compilation of national rhythms which include Ladainha, Batuku, Morna, Coladera, Finaçon, Tabanka and Funana. These styles have been interpreted by world music greats such as Cesaria Evora, Lura and Maria de Barros. If you enjoy any of those artists' music, you will really love this show because Alves is going to present those sounds in their purest form for an amazing night of live instrumentation.

So far this year the biggest names in Cape Verdean music such as Sara Tavares, Suzanna Lubrano and Ferro Gaita have rocked packed houses at SOB's and because the demand for Cape Verde artists has been so strong, Sob's has dedicated at least one Cape Verde showcase per month. Pa Nos which means "for us" in Cape Verde Kriolu will be presenting these shows which aim to create a complete experience into Cape Verde through music, food and culture.

In addition to a stellar show, make dinner reservations and be prepared to taste Cape Verdean infused dishes mixed along side Sob's famous Brazilian cuisine.
