Mexican Music and Culture is the Focus of La Mar de Músicas 2007

Cartagena, Spain - The theme for this year's La Mar de Músicas festival is the country of Mexico. La Mar de Músicas is one of Europe's most important world music festivals. Every year ir chooses a country as a theme, showcasing some of its best talent.

The artists featured this year include the renowned Lila Downs, who has revitalized Mexican popular music; Arizona border band Calexico; electronica band Shock Bukara; rocker Cecilia Toussaint; son jarocho, represented by Son de Madera and LaNegra Graciana; the edgy El Colectivo Nortec (Nortec Collective); Agustín Lara Experience; legendary singer Eugenia León; mariachi el Real de Jalisco; ska with Panteón Rococó and Los de Abajo; and the experimental sounds of Jorge Reyes.



Mexico will not be the only country represented. The festival will feature performances by other world music acts from Europe, Africa and south America, including Tinariwen, K´Naan, Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba, and Youssou N'Dour.

 

In addition to the music concerts, there will be sessions dedicated to literature, represented by over 40 authors, as well as film exhibits.
