Originally released in 1998, Supralingua is part of a collection of drumming masterpieces reissued by Shout! Factory. In addition to the outstanding collection of drumming masters that percussion visionary Mickey Hart has accustomed us to, the album also includes Tibetan chants by real monks (not samples), vocals and a wide range of sounds made by Hart himself using his computer-controlled machine called RAMU. With the RAMU, Hart is able to generate the sounds of the didjeridu (a favorite of San Francisco Bay Area world music acts), flutes, vocal samples, kalimba and much more.
The list of percussionists is a dream team: Zakir Hussain, Giovanni Hidalgo, Sikiru Adepoju and David Garibaldi. The musicians create a hypnotic percussive ambiance, combined with mesmerizing melodies that span the globe. The tribal drumming collective explores Afro-Cuban beats, Tibetan mantras, Australian Aboriginal soundscapes, African drumming and much more.
