Simak Dialog

Patahan (Moonjune Records, 2007)

Simak Dialog is an inspired Indonesian band that follows the venerable tradition of fusion, adding an new element: Indonesian music and regional musical instruments. The group is led by masterful keyboardist and composer Riza Arshad. The rest of the band is formed by Tohpati Ario Hutomo on guitars, Adhitya Pratama on fretless bass, and Endang Ramdan on Sunda kendang and percussion toys. Guests include: Emy Tata Makassar kendang, ceng-ceng, kethuk, vocals, poetry reading (Bahasa Indonesian language); Nyak Ina Raseuki “Ubiet” vocals on tracks 2 and 5; and special guest on track 5 Marla Stukenberg poetry reading in German.

The album Patahan, on Moonjune Records, was recorded live at Goethe Haud in Jakarta, Indonedia. The lengthy CD captures the keyboard wizardry of Arshad and the creative improvisations of the whole band.  Fusion music fans fans will be enjoyably pleased.

Buy Patahan.
