New york (NY), USA - S.O.B.’s announced that international reggae star and Lucky Dube collaborator, Sister Carol, will headline Long Live Lucky, a memorial concert and candlelight vigil for deceased reggae icon Lucky Dube, on Thursday, November 8, 2007.

The Long Live Lucky benefit concert will celebrate the life and mourn the loss of this international music icon, whose tragic murder on October 18 rocked his native South Africa as well as the entire world music community.

Other live Performers include Senegalese reggae band Meta and the Cornerstones, and The New Kingston Band, covering 'Lucky Dube classics. S.O.B.’s frequently hosted Lucky Dube’s live appearances in New York and was the privileged site of the artist’s first-ever concert in the U.S and last NY concert before his untimely death, on May 23rd of this year. Proceeds for Long Live Luck y will be donated to the family estate of Lucky Dube.

This tribute is more than a celebration of Lucky Dube’s life, music and message,” said Larry Gold, owner of S.O.B.’s. “It’s a call to action for the world music community, and our way of helping to combat the cycle of violence that affects us all."

Lucky Dube, who recorded over 20 albums in the span of his critically acclaimed career and was South Africa’s biggest-selling reggae singer, was killed on October 18 in an apparent botched car-jacking that occurred while dropping his teenage children off at his brother’s home in Rosettenville, South Africa. With a powerful message of hope conveyed through songs like “Peace, Perfect Peace” and “Different Colours/One People,” the 43-year old artist uplifted a South African nation plagued by one of the world’s highest murder rate and won millions of fans around the world.

S.O.B.’s remains dedicated to bringing music of the African diaspora to New York, and the Long Live Lucky tribute concert will extend the venue’s continued efforts to promote world music and the exceptional artists who transcend cultural divides.
