Tuvan Ensemble Alash Returns to United States for January 2008 Tour
12/26/2007 01:49AM
Contributed by: WMC_News_Dept.

Tour AnnouncementsAn extraordinary group of young musicians called Alash will be returning to the U.S. with a big sound from the tiny republic of Tuva, renowned for its throat singing. One of the most adventurous groups driving the revival of traditional Central Asian music, the quartet infuses subtle modern influences into traditional songs, creating beautiful vocal and instrumental combinations that are contemporary, and yet distinctly Tuvan.

Masters of both instrumental and vocal Tuvan music, Alash amazes audiences with their vocal feats, which inspire standing ovations and calls for encores. They will be on tour in the Northeast United States from January 5, 2008 to February 2, 2008.

In addition to concerts, Alash will conduct workshops in Tuvan music and culture at schools and colleges. While on tour last year, the group recorded tracks with avant-garde banjo legend Bela Fleck for an album to be released in 2008.

Complete tour details are available at: www.alashensemble.com/performances.htm.
