Carmen Linares, was born in Linares, a little village in Jaen. Inheritor of the flamenco traditional art, she has won, by own merit, a privileged place between the current flamenco singers, being one of the most demanded and with more international present in contemporary flamenco.

"Cantaora" is the title of one of the records of CARMEN LINARES because she is the indisputable flamenco singer of our time.

The voice of CARMEN LINARES, full of nuances and musicality, together with a personal and versatile style, has shown the endless possibilities of the flamenco art. Her constant searching for new expression forms, with deep knowledge and wide repertoire, has leaded to an enriching art enable to combine the "jondo" singing with Symphonic and Chamber Orchestras. She has been one of the first flamenco artists who was invited by the Philarmonic Orchestra of New York and performed at Lincoln Center. The New York Times described her as a singer with "an extraordinary and expressive power".

She has performed singing "El Amor Brujo" at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires with the conductor Rafael Frunbech de Burgos, and also "La Vida Breve" at Opera Theatre in Sydney with the conductor Josep Pons. She was invited by the Spanish Embassy to participate in a concert-homage to Plácido Domingo in Washington.

Carmen Linares recordings, which she has always cared for in a very rigorous manner, have been acclaimed by the critic and have received important prizes (French Academy and Silver Medal of the Junta de Andalucía). Among her latest works we can underline "Canciones Populares Antiguas"by Federico García Lorca (Auvidis, 1994) and "Antología de la Mujer en el Cante"(Polygram, 1996). In a concert at Teatro Monumental de Madrid (Carmen Linares en Antología) she obtained a rotund success of audience and the critic described it as "antologic". The great film director Carlos Saura counted on her for his film "Flamenco".
