David ?Mack? McKinney is one of Hartford?s most sought after musicians. The
versatile musician and singer performs in the Connecticut area and is fluent in
all styles of popular dance music. His philosophy is to never let the customer
down.
David?s group comes in all different sizes. From a seven piece full band with horns or a hard driving five piece rhythm section. The band also breaks down to an intimate three or two piece acoustic type dinner band, or even Dave alone as a solo. By the time David was old enough to drive he began playing club?s in the downtown Hartford (Connecticut) area with his band, The Crew, in the early 80?s, as well playing in the Hartford All-City Jazz ensemble directed under the legendary William Zarriff. After high school he went on to study music at the coveted Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles under the likes of Jeff Berlin, Scott Henderson, and Jennifer Batten. During his first year he went to audition for South African show Band ?Samaki And the Variations. Dave got the gig and toured North America for nine months in support of their hit single ? Can?t stop the Break? during all the Break Dancing Craze of the eighties. David returned home in ?87 and played in groups of his own in Connecticut and Massachusetts. By 1993, David joined Cool Runnings, replacing Mikey Chung formerly of Reggae group Black Uhuru. Cool Runnings went on to winning awards for Hartford?s best reggae for five years straight. David left Cool Runnings to form his own group which is not only a band but many other things. David?s expertise in production earned a position in Gospel music. Every Sunday at the Horace Bushnell church David was employed as chief engineer in charge of making sure the live radio broadcast was put on for 910 jams radio station. He opened his own recording studio Auwi Hill, and produced, written and
performed on five CDs since its opening in 1998. |
