World Music in Brussels

Brussels is not only the capital of Belgium, but it is also one of the government seats of the European union. It is a city where many languages are spoken, especially French, Flemish, and English. One of the most influential world music labels in the European continent, Crammed Discs, is based there. Crammed put Eastern European music Gypsy music on the world music map.

Venues:

Music clubs that regularly program World & Folk music:

La Tentation, Rue de Laeken, 28 - 1000 Brussels

Flagey, Place Sainte-Croix, 1050 Brussels.

Festivals:

Brussels hosts one of the largest world music festivals in Europe, Couleur Café. It is usually held between June and early July. 

Another festival, Eu'ritmix Summer Festival, includes Jazz and World Music. It is usually held in August. 

Radio:

De Grote Boodschap - Jan Vanlangendonck - Radio 1 - VRT - Reyerslaan - 1044 Brussels.

Radio Panik 105.4 FM, a non-commercial station, has many alternative shows feature non-Belgian music. Michel Goedart produces 3 radio programs, in French language: Musiques du Monde : 2 hours a week - ethnic & traditional  music; Métissages : 1 hour a week - crossroad world music; Il était une fois : 1 hour a week - storytelling & world music. Psyche Van Het Folk in Antwerp broadcasts on 106.7 FM from 20:00 to 22:00.
